The speed of your Internet connection is going to determine the speed at which you are able to download and surf web pages. If you are experiencing download speeds and a general slowing down of the Internet then there could be a software problem causing this. As with general system performance the Internet can be adversely affected by Viruses and Spyware. The removal of these bits of software is easy with the right tools and are both covered in the Computer Going Slow section.
Another thing that can slow the Internet down is Toolbars. These are bits of software that are downloaded from the Internet and are added to the Internet Explorer program. They offer you search boxes and other Internet shortcuts but can seriously slow down the speed at which pages can be viewed. A good start is to uninstall the toolbar(s) from the add remove programs section of the control panel. Another factor that could effect the speed of the Internet is Temporary Internet Files. These files are stored on the PC and can be used to help performance but too many can hinder the performance. A good start to removing these files is to open Internet Explorer and go to the tools menu at the top of the screen. Then go to Internet Options. On the general screen there is an option to Delete Files, select this. Depending on how many files there are on your system it may take a few minutes to remove them all. It is also a good idea to Delete Cookies. |
